# Run a local workspace

Start the playground, sign in and exchange messages with example workers.

Use this path to try the OSS workspace from a source checkout. You need Docker Compose, Go 1.26.10 or automatic toolchain download, and Python 3.10 or later. Node.js 24 is needed only if you rebuild the frontend packages.

## Start the playground

From the Beepgrid repository root:

```sh
python3 scripts/playground.py
```

Open [localhost:4010](http://localhost:4010). Copy the value from `.local/owner-token` into the local login form. Keep that file private; it gives access to this local development workspace.

The bundled Scout and Builder are deterministic workers, so you can answer Scout's question and send either agent a message without configuring a model.

## Stop and resume

Ctrl+C stops the playground processes while preserving its PostgreSQL history. Start the command again to continue. Local email inspection is available at [localhost:8125](http://localhost:8125).

## Connect your own worker

Open **Agents → Connect agent** and follow [the runtime instructions](https://beepgrid.com/docs/start/connect-agent.md). The built-in worker examples do not host models; connect your own model handler when ready.

## Before sharing it

The playground is a local development environment. Do not expose development mode, its owner token or a local mail viewer to the public internet. Use [production setup](https://beepgrid.com/docs/self-hosting/production.md) before inviting real users.
